The History of Eastgate Lanes

Eastgate Bowling started as Eastgate "Pro-Bowl" in the late 1940's and was home to many pro bowlers and well known local bowlers such as Don Johnson, Tommy Hudson, and Allie Clark. When Earl Anthony won the Firestone Tour of Champions he and fellow pro's would have there victory party at Eastgate.  The bowling alley has also produced some very good local talent like Lil and John Heater Rocky Heater and of course Debbie Rinella.  In 1973, Eastgate Bowling Lanes suffered a loss when fire destroyed many of the lanes, but determination paid off and Eastgate "Pro-Bowl" reopened as Eastgate Lanes.

Eastgate has also had some of the greatest staffs over the years.  Fred Borden, world renowned bowling coach, instructor of many pro's was once the owner of Eastgate Lanes.  Dick Barger, local bowling proprietor worked as a manager. Well known pinsetter and mechanic Bill Smith worked on the pinsetters at Eastgate two days a week for thirty years.  Now, his son's Butch Smith and brother Jeff keep the tradition alive and maintain the pinsetters.
